UK January Intake 2027: Universities, Courses & Deadlines

UK January Intake 2027 – Universities, Courses, Deadlines and Application Guide

The UK January intake 2027 gives international students another opportunity to start university without waiting for the next September intake. January has a particularly good choice of Master’s degrees in business, management, computer science, artificial intelligence, data science, engineering, finance, marketing, project management and supply chain management. A smaller number of Bachelor’s, Top-Up and pathway programmes also begin in January.

January entry is useful if you completed your previous qualification later in the year, missed a September admission deadline, need additional time for an English test or want to start university before autumn 2027. The important point is to choose a course that actually has a January 2027 start rather than assuming every programme at a university is available in January.

Students applying from Dubai, Abu Dhabi and across the UAE should also allow time after admission for the tuition deposit, outstanding offer conditions, CAS preparation and the UK Student visa. Several universities close international applications during October, November and December 2026, so leaving the process until the end of the year can reduce the available choices.

January 2027 applications are already open at many universities. If you are planning to start in January, August to October 2026 is a good period to complete most university applications. This leaves more time to meet offer conditions and complete the CAS and Student visa process.

University of Exeter 4 January 2027 International students should apply much earlier so there is enough time for the offer, deposit, CAS and visa.

An application deadline is not the final date for the whole admission process. After receiving an offer, you may still need to submit final results, meet an English condition, pay a deposit and complete the university’s CAS checks.

When Should You Apply for the UK January Intake 2027?

You do not have to wait until November to apply. For an international student, the safer approach is to have the main university applications submitted by September or October 2026 whenever possible.

May – July 2026

Research January courses, compare tuition fees, check academic entry requirements and start preparing English-language evidence.

August – October 2026

Submit university applications with transcripts, certificates, passport, personal statement, CV and other required documents.

October – December 2026

Receive decisions, meet academic or English conditions, accept the offer, arrange tuition payments and complete CAS requirements.

December 2026 – January 2027

Receive the CAS, complete the Student visa application, arrange accommodation and prepare for university enrolment.

UK January Intake 2027 Tuition Fees

Tuition fees are set by the university and the course. January entry does not have a separate national tuition fee. The examples below show how much the price can differ between programmes.

University & January Course Example Published International Tuition
University of Portsmouth – MSc Project Management £18,600
University of Dundee – International Business BSc £23,150 per year before scholarships for the published January 2027 route.
Brunel University of London – MSc International Business £24,795
Heriot-Watt University – MSc Business Analytics and Consultancy £24,952
University of Exeter – MSc Business and Management £31,000
Queen Mary University of London – MSc Management £35,250

These are published course examples for the 2026/27 or January 2027 cycle, not a UK-wide fee range. Always use the tuition fee shown on your chosen course page.

Scholarships for January 2027 International Students

January students can receive university scholarships, but eligibility depends on the course, nationality, academic results and funding rules.

University of Strathclyde

January 2027 international Master’s scholarships are available across several faculties. Current Science awards include £6,000 Master’s scholarships and excellence awards of £7,000 to £8,000 for eligible students.

University of Exeter

Exeter Excellence Scholarships for January 2027 postgraduate entry include awards of £3,000, £5,000 or £10,000 on eligible courses.

Brunel University of London

Brunel lists postgraduate international scholarship opportunities, including its Vice-Chancellor’s Postgraduate International Excellence Award for eligible applicants.

Check scholarship conditions before paying the deposit because some awards have separate deadlines and some are limited to specific nationalities or courses.

UK January Intake 2027 Entry Requirements

Entry requirements are shown on the individual university course page. Your previous qualification, grades, subject background and English level are checked against the course you apply for.

Academic Qualifications

Bachelor’s applicants normally need an accepted school-leaving qualification or an approved foundation route. Master’s applicants normally need a recognised Bachelor’s degree. Some conversion Master’s programmes accept graduates from a wide range of subjects, while technical courses can require a degree in computing, engineering, mathematics or another related field.

English Language

Check the English requirement shown for your exact course. Universities can accept IELTS and other approved English tests, and some accept additional forms of English evidence. The required overall score and individual component scores can differ between courses.

Personal Statement, CV and References

A postgraduate application can ask for a personal statement, CV and one or more references. The personal statement should explain why you selected the course, how it connects with your education or work and what you intend to do after graduation.

Portfolio or Research Proposal

Design, architecture and other creative courses can require a portfolio. Research degrees can require a research proposal and, in some cases, contact with a potential supervisor before the application is completed.

Documents Required for UK January Intake Admission

  • Valid passport copy
  • Academic certificates
  • Transcripts or mark sheets
  • English-language test result or other accepted English evidence
  • Personal statement or statement of purpose if requested
  • Academic or professional references if requested
  • CV for postgraduate courses that request one
  • Employment documents when work experience is relevant to admission
  • Portfolio for design, architecture and creative courses
  • Research proposal for research programmes that require one
  • Certified English translations for documents issued in another language

Can You Apply for the UK January Intake with a Study Gap?

Yes. A study gap does not automatically prevent admission to a UK university.

Explain what you were doing after your previous qualification. Employment, running a business, professional training, internships, professional qualifications and other genuine activities can help explain the period between studies.

The new course should also make sense for your next step. If you are changing from one subject or career to another, explain why you are making that change and what you plan to do with the new qualification.

How to Apply for the UK January Intake 2027

  1. Decide whether you are applying for a Bachelor’s, Master’s, Top-Up, pathway or research programme.
  2. Find universities that publish your chosen course with a January 2027 start.
  3. Compare the academic requirements, English requirement, tuition fee, course modules, location and deadline.
  4. Prepare your passport, academic certificates, transcripts and English-language evidence.
  5. Prepare the personal statement, CV, references, portfolio or research proposal requested for the course.
  6. Submit the university application.
  7. Respond quickly if the university asks for another document or an interview.
  8. Receive the conditional or unconditional offer.
  9. Complete all outstanding conditions and accept the offer.
  10. Pay the required tuition deposit.
  11. Complete the university’s CAS checks.
  12. Receive the CAS and submit the UK Student visa application.

CAS for the UK January 2027 Intake

You need a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies, known as a CAS, before you can submit a UK Student visa application.

Receiving a university offer does not automatically produce the CAS. The university can first ask you to meet all academic and English conditions, accept the offer, pay a tuition deposit and complete financial or credibility checks.

Once issued, check the CAS details carefully. Your name, passport details, course title, start date, tuition fee and tuition already paid should be correct before you use it for the visa application.

For January entry, the CAS deadline can be more important than the original application deadline. If the university cannot issue the CAS in time, there may not be enough time left to complete the Student visa before enrolment.

UK Student Visa for January Intake 2027 from the UAE

After your CAS is issued, you can complete the UK Student visa application. An application submitted from outside the UK can be made up to six months before the course starts.

GOV.UK currently states that an overseas Student visa decision is usually made within three weeks, although an application can take longer if additional checks or documents are needed.

Student Visa Item Current UK Requirement
CAS Required before submitting the Student visa application.
Earliest Overseas Application Up to 6 months before the course starts.
Student Visa Fee £558.
Usual Overseas Decision Time Around 3 weeks.
Living Costs – London £1,529 per month for up to 9 months.
Living Costs – Outside London £1,171 per month for up to 9 months.
Course Fees Outstanding course fees for the first academic year as shown on the CAS.
Financial Holding Period When bank evidence is required, the required balance is normally held for at least 28 consecutive days.
Immigration Health Surcharge £776 per year for students. The total charged depends on the length of the visa.
Immigration Status Successful applicants receive an eVisa linked to a UKVI account.

UK Student Visa 28-Day Financial Rule

If you need to submit bank evidence, the required Student visa funds normally need to remain available for at least 28 consecutive days.

The final day of that 28-day period must be within 31 days of the date you submit the Student visa application.

The calculation includes the unpaid first-year tuition shown on the CAS plus the London or outside-London living-cost amount. Tuition already paid to the university can reduce the outstanding tuition amount when it is correctly shown on the CAS or supported by the required evidence.

ATAS, TB Test and eVisa for January 2027 Students

ATAS

Some postgraduate science, engineering and technology courses require an Academic Technology Approval Scheme certificate before the Student visa application. If your course requires ATAS, begin the process early because a university cannot complete the visa sponsorship process until the required clearance has been obtained.

TB Test

Applying from Dubai or Abu Dhabi does not automatically mean you need a TB certificate. The requirement is based on your residence history under the UK TB rules. Applicants who need a certificate must use a UK-approved clinic.

eVisa

Successful Student visa applicants receive an eVisa as their digital UK immigration record. The travel document used for the journey should be correctly linked to the student’s UKVI account before travel.

Can January 2027 Master’s Students Bring Dependants?

Most international students starting an ordinary taught Master’s degree in January 2027 cannot bring a partner or children under the Student dependant route.

Under the current rules, the main postgraduate routes that can qualify are a PhD, another doctorate or a research-based higher degree that meets the Student dependant rules. Qualifying government-sponsored students can also have different eligibility.

Graduate Visa After a UK Course Starting in January 2027

Under the current Graduate visa rules, Bachelor’s and Master’s graduates who apply for the Graduate route on or after 1 January 2027 receive 18 months of permission.

Graduates completing a PhD or another doctoral qualification continue to receive three years under the current Graduate route rules. Because a January 2027 student will normally graduate later, check the immigration rules again closer to course completion.

January Intake vs September Intake in the UK

Factor January Intake September Intake
Overall Course Choice Good choice, especially for Master’s courses Largest choice of the year
Master’s Degrees Strong range in business, computing, engineering and professional subjects Widest range
Bachelor’s Degrees Smaller range; some full degrees, Top-Ups and pathways Main Bachelor’s start period
Useful For Students who missed September or want to begin before the next autumn intake Students who want the widest university and course choice
Which Should You Choose? Choose January when a suitable course is available and the timing works for you Choose September when maximum course choice is more important

Does the UCAS January Deadline Mean January Intake?

No. The UCAS January application deadline should not be confused with a January course start.

The UCAS equal-consideration date for most 2027 undergraduate courses is 13 January 2027. Most of those courses begin in September or October 2027, not January.

For postgraduate January courses, applications are usually made directly to the university. Use the admissions deadline published for the Master’s course you want to study.

What If You Miss the January 2027 Intake?

Missing January does not always mean waiting another twelve months.

Some UK universities have May or other spring starts for particular courses. If your subject is not available later in the year, September 2027 provides the largest university and course selection.

Before changing intake, compare the actual course modules, tuition fee and location. It is usually better to wait for the right degree than to choose a different programme only because it starts earlier.
